چکیده

A set of manufacturers outsource certain operations to a single third-party. Each available day of production at the third party can be booked at a given cost announced by him. Knowing these costs, manufacturers book available production days in a first-come-first-served (FCFS) order so as to optimize their individual cost. The cost for each manufacturer consists of booking and work-in-progress (WIP) costs as expressed by the weighted flow time. When window booking is completed, the third-party identifies a schedule that minimizes the total cost incurred by all manufacturers. This coordination reduces the total cost but may result to higher costs for a subset of manufacturers. For this reason, the third-party devises a savings sharing scheme with which the monetary benefit for each manufacturer is greater following the coordination. In this article we present algorithms for the problem considered, as well as savings sharing schemes that make coordination a better alternative for all parties involved. The highlight of our experiments is that the costs of the production chain can be reduced by an average of 32% if one-third of the members let the third-party cover their increased WIP cost in exchange for 40-55% of the total savings. ∗Decision Sciences Department, Lundquist College of Business, 1208 University of Oregon, Eugene, OR 974031208, [email protected] †Department of Operations, Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University, 10900 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44106-7235, [email protected]

Call-Routing Schemes for Call-Center Outsourcing

This paper considers four schemes for routing low-value calls between the client company and the outsourcer. These schemes vary in the complexity of their routing algorithms, as well as the sophistication of the telephone and information technology infrastructure they require of the two operations. For three of these schemes, we provide a direct characterization of system performance. For the f...

Call Center Outsourcing: Coordinating Staffing Level and Service Quality

In this paper, we study the contracting issues in an outsourcing supply chain consisting of a user company and a call center that does outsourcing work for the user company. We model the call center as a G/G/s queue with customer abandonment. Each call has a revenue potential, and we model the call center’s service quality by the percentage of calls resolved (revenue realized). The call center ...

Multiple-organizational coordination planning for humanitarian relief operations

In humanitarian relief operations (HRO), due to the excessive number of relief organizations, multiple organizational coordination is a demanding and complicated task. Considering such a problem, this paper proposes a two-phase mechanism to coordinate multiple heterogeneous relief organizations in a decentralized HRO logistics network. To address such a problem, first a bi-level mixed integer l...

Call - Routing Schemes for Call - Center Outsourcing by Noah Gans and Yong - Pin Zhou 2005 / 49 / TOM INSEAD - Wharton Alliance Center for Global Research & Development

Companies may choose to outsource parts, but not all, of their call-center operations. In some cases, they classify customers as high or low-value, serving the former with their " in house " operations and routing the latter to an outsourcer. Typically, they impose service-level constraints on the time each type of customer waits on hold. This paper considers four schemes for routing low-value ...
